The Version of Windows 8 is a home edition. Right Click on my computer go to properties. Beside the big Blue Logo under Windows edition If it just says Windows 8 then that is the Home edition and you cannot join a domain with the home edition.
You need windows 8 pro or enterprise. Hope this helps someone.
