How to install windows ce on handheld pc

I think everybody should just send Microsoft bucks and tell them to stop fixing things that work. Hell, I was plenty happy with XP Pro. Win 10 is a product that trades productivity for fu-fu-and fluffy. Since you recently updated your Windows 10, this issue may have something to do with an outdated driver. What we can suggest is that you update your survey data collector's driver by going to the device manufacturer's website.

With all due respect, the problem lies in the interface between Win 10 and Windows Mobile Device Center which cannot get beyond the opening screen since the update KB Computer loads the opening screen logo, etc. The computer acknowledges the hookup of the data collector by "plug" sound, but the device doesn't show up in File Explorer, just isn't there.

By the way, that program will normally load up without any device hooked up to the computer, hence my opinion. When the system works correctly, the data collector shows up on File Explorer much like a remote hard drive or thumb drive.

Yes, these data collectors and such are a bit older, this one is running Windows CE version 6. It works flawlessly on a different machine with Win 7 Pro and has run flawlessly on Win 10 till this recent update. Whatever you can find out with regard to Windows Mobile Device Center and this issue, please advise. I am now going on a quest to download yesterday's data on my other machine in another building, put the information on a thumb drive, bring it back here and load it on my work machine.

Reminds me of the old days when we did not even enjoy peer to peer abilities. Thanks Dennis and all who have commented. I think this is bigger issue than Microsoft understands. There are many, many mobile peripherals that will undoubtedly be effected by this issue. For instance, some meter readers utility stuff and a lot of surveyors and GIS persons use these same devices. We are experiencing the same issue.

We have over 1, of these running in logistic operations. Now we have customers from all over the world calling saying their Mobile Computer will not sync,,, We have not found a resolution,.

I cannot believe the arrogance of Microsoft. We have calls into Zebra Technologies, but have not received a reply. I think a class action law suite may be in order. OUR advise. In reply to wmta2's post on November 18, Well, I have made progress. I left the device turned on and plugged in long enough for Windows Update to find a compatible driver. I am still testing it to see how reliable the devices will be on Windows 7 because the usb connections are flaky enough on XP. This method of installing software is the least user friendly and requires the end user to be confident in using the Windows CE Explorer on their Handheld PCs.

Software downloaded from the Internet which requires the user to manually upload the file are normally distributed in a compressed archive - such as a Zip or Tar file. When you open the compressed file, or extract the files from the distribution file you will most likely see a number of similarly names files.

Windows CE can run on a multitude of Processors. As a result developers must provide distributions of their applications targeted for each of the different processors that they wish to support.

It can often be confusing as to which version of the. The main CPU types that you may encounter are:. If you are unsure which processor type your device uses you can ascertain which file you need to source by:. Once you know which processor your Handheld PC contains. Move the files you uploaded into the directory using the Cut and Paste commands from the edit menu.
